About the Association

The U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association was founded in 1976 as a Non-Profit Corporation dedicated to the preservation, restoration and enjoyment of early steam engines, gasoline engines, tractors and associated equipment.

We believe that these fine machines of the past are as much a part of the American heritage as the hardy men and women who used them in forging this grand nation. It is lamentable that the passage of time, the ravages of the elements and simple ignorance has all but destroyed many of these implements. It is our ongoing resolve to save this equipment for present and future generations.

The Association is one of over 400 such groups in the world today. Members of different organizations are restoring and exhibiting old gas engines and tractors throughput the United States and Canada and even as far away as England and Australia.

The Association participates in many events in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and sponsors an annual exposition of early agriculture equipment.  Every Labor Day weekend, exhibitors gather to display and operate these implements and—at least for a few hours—both machine and operator are young again.

We cordially invite you to become a member of the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association. Your annual $10 membership fee helps fund operation of the Association. As a member, you will receive a regular newsletter updating current Association projects.

As a non-profit organization, the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association depends on the support of generous people like you for its continued success.  Donations may be sent to:
